Along with her role as protective mother-goddess of ancient Egypt, Isis was also sister and wife of Osiris. This figure once wore a crown with horns and a sun disk, and would have held an ankh, the symbol of eternal life, in her right hand. As a symbol of the cycle of death and rebirth, Isis was worshipped alongside Osiris in the cult of the dead.
